Mathematica 9.0.1 Windows Installation Instructions

Installation Instructions

1.  Insert the Mathematica DVD into the DVD drive.

2.  Insert the Mathematica CD. Windows Explorer may automatically open the DVD Folder or you can manually Double Click on the Disc icon in “My Computer”. Click Next.

 

3.  If you are content to install it at the default location, click next. If not, click browse and find your preferred location for the install.
*Note: This install requires at least 4,306.5 MB of free disk space.

 

4.  Select the components that you require. Then click next.

 

5.  If you would like a start menu shortcut, click next. If not, check the box in the lower left to prevent the shortcut.

 

6.  Review your selections. If they are correct, click install.

 

7.  Click finish.

 

 

Licensing

In order to use Mathematica 9.0.1, you must license your product. There are two types of installations, single-machine and network based.

Single-machine
·     Good for home use or PC’s which are not on UC network
·     The license is saved locally and expires yearly

Network based
·     For installations of labs, or other computers on UC network.
·     Gets license from license server, so the machine must be on the internet
·     The license server is updated with the latest license yearly.

Single Machine

Single Machine installation requires an Activation Key.

Faculty and Staff: Request an Activation Key using the Mathematica Activation Key Request Form. The URL f the form was sent to you in email from software@uc.edu. When your request is approved, your Activation Key will be sent to you in an email.
Students: An Activation Key was given to you when you purchased Mathematica at the UC Bookstore.


1.  When you first run Mathematica, the following dialog box appears. Enter your Activation Key. Click Activate.

 

2.  Accept the agreement and click OK

 

3.  Mathematica is ready for use.

Network License

Network License installation requires the IP name of the license manager. Email software@uc.edu for this information.

1.  When you first run Mathematica, the following dialog box appears. Click ‘Other ways to activate’ button.

 

2.    Click Connect to a Network License Server.

 

3.   Enter the name of the license server. Click Activate.

 

 

Registration

After installing Mathematica on your computer, please follow the directions below to register your license. Registration will provide you with the following benefits while you are affiliated with the University of Cincinnati:

·      Extend your Mathematica license automatically for FREE each year
·      Receive FREE upgrades automatically as they become available

 

 

STEP 1: Go to http://user.wolfram.com/register EXISTING USERS: Sign in with your Wolfram ID. NEW USERS: Create a Wolfram ID

1.       Click “Create Account.

2.       Enter your name, UC email address, and password, and click “Create Wolfram ID.”

3.       Log into your email account and click on the link in the email to validate your Wolfram ID.
 

 

STEP 2:  Register your License

1.   Enter your activation key at the prompt and click “Continue.”
      Your activation key is in the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXX
2.   Select an existing address from the list, if available, or enter a new address.
3.   Once you have completed the form, click “Finish.”

Congratulations, your registration is complete!
