 Password Self Service PSS

 Instructions for setup and use of the password self service (PSS) to manage and reset your University of Cincinnati password.

What is the PSS?

The Password Self-Service (PSS) allows you to reset your password to any connected application without having to call the IT@UC Service Desk. You simply setup your profile and, if you later forget your password, you can reset your password instantly using PSS. You will be prompted with a security token and then allowed to reset your password yourself!

Finding your username and first time login password
To find your UC username, please visit https://www.uc.edu/PSS/public/forgottenusername


Once you have obtained your username, follow the instructions for Setting up your PSS profile using the password Uc!MMDDYYYY (where MMDDYYYY is your full date of birth)



What are the password requirements?

Your new password must contain:

  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one number
  • Must be a minimum length of eight characters
  • Your password may not contain an form of your name or username
  • The system remembers passwords you have already used, and will not allow you to reuse an old password


Setting up your PSS profile

To set up your Password Self-Service profile, please visit: www.uc.edu/pss

This link will take you to a page where you are asked to log in to PSS using your current password. If you do not remember your current password, you will need to call the IT@UC Service Desk at 513-556-HELP (4357) to have your password reset.




Profile Information:

Once logged in, you will see a screen that requires an external (Non UC) email address as well as the option of a cellphone number capable of receiving text message. These details will provide you a means of resetting your password, so please ensure you enter an email address that is readily accessible to you. Once complete, click Update.



If your details were accepted you will be taken to a confirmation page. If your profile details appear correct, then click Confirm, otherwise click Go Back and correct any errors. 



Once you have confirmed, you should then be given message that your profile setup was successful!


You will also get an email confirming your profile change. This email is sent to your primary UC email account (if you have one) and your PSS Profile email you provided.


    Click Continue to be taken to the main menu where you will be allowed to:

·         Change your password

·         Update/Change your PSS profile including your password reset contact information

·         View account information including:

o   Password expiration status

o   The University's password requirements

o   Password reset history




How To:Change Your Password

If you know your password, but need to change your password, please visit: www.uc.edu/pss 
Once there, login and click Change Password you will then be promoted to accept terms/conditions.



After accepting the terms/conditions, you will then be prompted for your current password, once entered, click Continue.



If your existing password is accepted, you will be taken to a page that will ask for a New Password as well as confirmation of the new password.



The requirements for the password are listed above, but if your password does not meet requirements, you will receive a red message explaining the reasoning. Also, the Change Password button will not be clickable.


The possible errors are listed below:

password too short  

Your password is too short, all passwords must be at least 8 characters.

new password lacks upper case  

Your password lacks an uppercase letter, all passwords must contain at least one upper case character.

password lacks numbers  

Your password lacks a number, all passwords must contain at least one number.

password was previously used  


Your password is not unique, our password system has a 10 password memory and will not allow reuse of any of the previous 10 passwords.


lacks lower case letters  

Your password lacks a lower case letter, all passwords must contain at least one lower case character.


If your confirmation password does not match the new password you will see a red X next to the confirm password field.



If your new password meets all the requirements, the Change Password button will then be clickable. Click Change Password to continue!



Your password change will then process, and once complete you will receive a message confirming that your password change was successful!


 You will also get an email confirming your password change. This email is sent to your primary UC email account (if you have one) and your PSS Profile email you provided.



How to reset a forgotten password.


If you have not setup your PSS profile and are not sure what your password is, please contact the IT@UC Service Desk at (513)556-4357.

If you have forgotten your password and have setup your new PSS profile, please follow the following instructions:


In your web browser, go to https://www.uc.edu/PSS   Once there, click Forgotten Password



You will then be taken to a page asking for the Username for which you want to reset the password for along with a captcha to verify you are a person and not a bot. Click the checkbox indicating “I’m not a robot” and perform any follow up steps the captcha service might require. Click Submit when ready.



You will then either be immediately emailed a token to your PSS email address, or presented with an option of where you want the token sent (this option is only available for users who’ve provided both an email address and cell phone number on their PSS Profile). Select which method you’d like to receive the token.


When requesting a token by email you will receive the following email at the address you supplied in your PSS Profile.


When requesting a token by SMS message, you’ll receive the following text message on the cell phone number you supplied in your PSS Profile.



You will then be prompted for a code, the code in question was emailed to the Non-UC email address that you specified in your PSS profile or sent via text message to the cell phone number if you chose to include one. The code expires in 5 minutes, so please ensure you have access to either the external account or the text message.  

Enter the code into the page and then click Check Code
